Educational Awareness - Materials
Existing Educational Material
The Navy implemented an effective education program on Adak while it was in control of the military. Many aspects of the program will continue to be used by the Navy to educate and inform the community.
Institutional Control Fact Sheets
The Navy will publish fact sheets pertaining to institutional controls on Adak Island. The fact sheets will address restrictions and the fish advisory information, as well as ordnance awareness. The fact sheets will be distributed to the residents of Adak, and copies will be provided to local government officials.
Information Packages for Public Officials
Generally, the public is aware of chemical and ordnance contamination at the former Adak Naval Complex. An information package produced by the Navy defining primary areas of concern was presented to the Adak City Council in October 2002. Maps were supplied that included the boundary of the IC sites, as identified in this plan. As part of the IC Excavation Notification system, compact discs of the maps (as well as hard copies) will be available in the Adak City office.
