SWMU 1, Andrew Lake Waste Ordnance Demolition Range
SWMU 1, the Andrew Lake Waste Ordnance Demolition Range, is located in Moffett Creek Valley. The valley terminates at the western shore of Andrew Lake and is bounded by steep slopes and ridgelines. The area is remote and isolated from the general population on Adak Island. Unauthorized personnel are restricted from the site by signs and fencing along the ridgelines of the valley and along the shoreline of Andrew Lake. A single gravel road provides access to the site, and it is secured with a locked gate at the beginning of the road near Andrew Lake. The range complex covers approximately 890 acres and consists of seven separate and distinct ranges. Most of the area has been secured with fencing and signage.
