Ordnance - Safety Awareness
Safety Awareness
The Navy will continue its ordnance safety awareness training to ensure residents and visitors are informed regarding the types of ordnance and what to do if they are encountered via a DVD presentation at the airport. Updated Munitions awareness videos, brochures, safety cards, hiking trail maps and imprinted items are all available, via the City of Adak office, to provide current information. This information covers such topics as the historical use of ordnance on Adak, restricted areas on island, safety procedures to follow if ordnance is discovered, and emergency contact numbers. Briefings or education literature (such as brochures or videos) will be provided to island visitors. In addition, a separate publication will be provided for visiting and resident children.
Munitions awareness hiking trail maps and other materials will be distributed by the City of Adak, USFWS office during their operating season, and by the Aleut Housing Authority. Trail maps and other materials may be available at other locations such as the post office, airport, city offices, fish plant, and medical clinic. These locations may vary based on available staffing and available materials.
An additional element of the Munitions awareness program was the development of the on-line training modules, available at adakupdate.com, in the “Institutional Controls” section under “Education Plan.” There are five separate modules, each covering a different topic. These modules may be revised, over time, with input from the community.
